Understanding cats helps people make informed choices about their care and the role cats play in our homes and communities.
Ten Lives provides education for schools, community groups, workplaces and other organised groups, with learning tailored to suit different ages, interests and needs.
Our education can explore responsible cat ownership, cat behaviour and welfare, keeping cats safe at home, the relationship between cats and wildlife, and the work involved in caring for cats in a shelter environment.
For schools, our Edu.Cat program also provides downloadable classroom resources that teachers can use with their students.
Education & Community visits to Ten Lives
Groups can visit the Ten Lives Cat Centre for a guided shelter tour and an educational experience tailored to their interests, age and learning needs.
Rather than a classroom-style presentation, visits take groups through the shelter and provide opportunities to learn about the cats in our care and the work that happens behind the scenes.
Responsible cat ownership is an important part of every visit, with other topics adapted to suit the group. These may include cat behaviour and welfare, keeping cats and wildlife safe, how an animal shelter operates, veterinary care, volunteering and the different ways people can help cats in their community.
Visits can be suitable for school groups, older students, disability and support groups, seniors, workplaces and other organised community groups. Visits can be adapted for different groups and learning needs, from simply spending time with the cats to a more educational tour of the shelter.
Edu.Cat in the classroom
Edu.Cat is Ten Lives’ school education program, designed to help young people understand cats, their needs and the role we all play in helping them live safe, healthy and enriched lives.
Our downloadable teacher and student resources provide ready-to-use activities covering responsible cat ownership, behaviour, welfare and the relationship between cats, people and the environment.
Teachers can use the resources as a standalone classroom program or alongside a visit to Ten Lives.
