Safe Cat, Safe Wildlife

Safer lives for cats and wildlife.

Safe Cat, Safe Wildlife is built on a simple idea: keeping cats safe and protecting native wildlife go hand in hand.

Originally developed by RSPCA Victoria and Zoos Victoria, the program encourages a positive, practical approach to responsible cat ownership. It helps people provide safe, healthy and fulfilling lives for their cats while reducing the impacts of roaming on wildlife and communities.

At Ten Lives, we share this commitment to better outcomes for cats, communities and Tasmania’s unique environment.

Safe at home, happy at home

Cats that roam face greater risks from traffic, fighting, disease and becoming lost. Roaming also creates opportunities to hunt wildlife and can cause problems for neighbours.

Keeping cats safely at home reduces these risks, but safe doesn’t mean boring.

Cats still need to climb, scratch, hide, play, explore and watch the world around them. Indoor living, secure cat enclosures and cat-proofed outdoor spaces can all provide safe environments when combined with appropriate enrichment.

Simple steps make a difference

Desex. Microchip. Contain. Enrich.

These four actions help prevent unwanted litters, reunite lost cats with their families, reduce roaming and provide the physical and mental stimulation cats need.

By meeting their needs at home, we can help our cats thrive while giving Tasmania’s native wildlife a better chance to flourish.
