Tim Triumphs in Taking on Test and Tag
ARTICLE BY: Rich East, Ten Lives
Ten Lives Volunteer Tim McDougall has taken up the challenge of gaining accreditation to Test and Tag electrical appliances arriving at our Op Shops.
Until recently, our Op Shops in North Hobart and Margate were required to have warning labels attached to electrical goods stating that the item had not been tested.
Tim, who has been volunteering with Ten Lives since April 2019, completed the two-day Testing and Tagging course offered by TAFE Tasmania and successfully passed the final assessment.
Ten Lives purchased a handheld appliance tester (pictured below) for Tim to work with. The device is capable of completing a 3-stage test to ensure an appliance is safe to put on the shelves in the shop.
With electrical safety a big concern when it comes to secondhand goods, our Op Shops can now assure customers they are purchasing products that are safe to use and safe for their homes.
Thank you to Tim for taking on this project and for the value its added to our Op Shops. We also thank Tim for his ongoing contribution in volunteering at the Margate Op Shop and for applying his invaluable IT skills at the Centre.
