We are currently looking for an experienced Cert IV qualified veterinary nurse/s to join the vet team at Ten Lives Cat Centre.

About us

Ten Lives is a self-funded organisation which exists to shelter and help cats and kittens, and to work with and educate the Tasmanian community on methods and benefits of responsible cat ownership. We work to care for cats, our environment, and our community; our triple bottom line – people, the planet … and pussy cats.

About the position

We are looking for veterinary nurses who enjoy surgery and medicine and want to utilize their skills to improving the lives of cats in our care. Additionally, we have new positions for veterinary nurses who are open to an all-rounder role that includes hospital care, triage and treatment.

Each of these positions will provide you with an interesting and varied role, with different learning and development opportunities. We are happy to negotiate your ideal role to suit you and your skill set. This includes occasional/ seasonal casual nursing shifts and fulltime and part-time roles with variety.

Hours of work would be between 8.00am and 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and the number of shifts per week will be negotiated with the successful applicants.

Applicant need to be:

  • Highly experienced and confident with low stress cat handling or willingness to learn
  • Willingness to undertake feeding and cleaning duties in hospital
  • Experienced in triaging patients
  • Experienced with anaesthesia
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Good problem-solving skills/ solution-based mindset
  • Great teamwork and ability to work well autonomously
  • Understand Ten Lives is an open intake, responsible rehoming shelter

Successful applicant will:

  • Have a varied and interesting role where the welfare of our patients is always the bottom line.
  • Expand their skill set with shelter medicine, animal attending and behavioural modification and high frequency surgery while maintaining the highest medical standards.
  • Ten Lives also has some very exciting projects dealing with effective cat management in our community, and our vet team are involved in these projects.
